Commissioner Kerr: Commissioner Kerr thanked the Conifer Chamber for the meeting last Thursday morning. The Commissioner also attended a Applewood Business Association meeting. He expressed his appreciation to the association for inviting speakers from across the county. One speaker represented the Butterfly Pavilion, Commissioner Kerr mentioned this is a great opportunity in Jeffco to learn and engage.
Commissioner Kraft-Tharp: Commissioner Kraft-Tharp congratulated and thanked election judge Marilyn Whisenand, who has served as an election judge for seventeen years. By the age of 90, Marilyn has worked through five presidential elections and is volunteering again this year.
Commissioner Dahlkemper: Commissioner Dahlkemper invites everyone to the Arvada Chamber Annual State of the Region on October 18th, where some of the County’s most pressing issues will be addressed. She also shared that the Triad Bright Futures executive team met on October 14th. Triad Bright Futures is an organization that emerged from the Bright Futures Roadmap, aiming to ensure that all young community members have access to high-quality early childhood education. Commissioner Dahlkemper expressed her excitement about continuing to work with Triad Bright Futures, praising the amazing work being done. Additionally, she mentioned how wonderful it was to spend time with the Conifer Chamber last week. On the wildfire front, Commissioner Dahlkemper, who also chairs the Jeffco Wildfire Commission, updated the community on their recent meeting, where they discussed feedback on the County’s wildfire preparedness plan. She took a moment to recognize all the members who reviewed the plan and provided valuable input. The commissioner also discussed recovery efforts following the Quarry fire and heard from the Open Space team, who shared some of the challenges they’re addressing in the affected park. The key message: patience will be required, as the team wants to ensure everything is done correctly before the park reopens. Finally, Commissioner Dahlkemper mentioned discussions around unifying three fire districts in the mountain areas, which face the highest risk for wildfires in Colorado. These departments have the largest number of volunteer firefighters, but like many places nationwide, volunteer numbers are declining. The unification effort aims to help maintain timely service to residents in these areas.
County Manager: County Manager Kerby reminded everyone that the monthly Budget Advisory Committee meeting will be held on Thursday, October 17th, at 3:30 p.m.
